The value of a mountain community is not restricted to its economic resources. Besides the so-called “financial capital”, there are plenty other capitals that we can and should consider when assessing a #mountain #community. Il progetto di Community Capital Framework explains it very well: there’s the financial capital, the physical capital, natural capital, human capital, social capital, political capital and cultural capital. We picked this last one to evaluate one social group in the mountain community of Upper Vinschgau (Italy): apple growers.
We already talked about the incredible Mals and its “Wunder” (the pesticide-ban referendum in 2014). No wonder we’re now interested in doing more research on those people that were mostly affected by the ban. What’s the culture of apple growers in Mals – Upper Vinschgau? What kind of farming practices have they embodied? What is there degree of education? Do they manifest they’re culture through objects or events related to apples?
Read our report if you are interested in apple farming culture, landgrabbing and landscape perception.
